Here are several ways to mount a Klein Bottle for Display 17 March 99

(Story behind these photos: A publisher of mathematical textbooks asked me to create a Klein Bottle award to present to an editor.... something like a trophy. Well, after I spent a day making mountings, the publisher never called back. Such are the troubles of topological researchers...)

Of course, Acme Klein Bottles don't need such stands or supports. Our Klein Bottles stand on their own. The stuff below are suggestions for fancy display.

I found a couple wire display stands at a glass store. They have a round mirror at the bottom. I don't have any in stock, but you can probably find them at a hobby store.

They work fine for the Acme Medium Classical Klein Bottle (left) and OK for the baby classical (right). The big classic is too large for this stand, but the Klein Stein fits well.

Here is a Klein Bottle set on a cork, set into 1 cm diameter hollow brass tubing, set into a block of wood.

The bottle is easily removed.

A rubber cork would also work.

Perhaps the block of wood can be covered with a book cover, or else engraved with name.

Here I have used cheap piece of pine wood. Mahogany or Ebony would look better!

The Klein Bottle sits in a Möbius Loop Collar. This collar connects to a 1 cm diameter hollow brass tubing, which is set into a block of wood at an angle.

(this is an ideal mounting to make a Classical Klein Bottle into a barometer)

Notice that the collar does NOT fit the Klein bottle closely. The curves are too complex for me to properly bend the brass collar.

The Möbius Loop Collar. This collar is made of 2 cm wide brass strip (brass strip is about 1 mm thickness). I have crudely soldered the ends of the strip together -- you can see the blobs of solder next to my index-finger.

Please also note - the brass strip has sharp edges, especially where the fold of the metal reaches the edge of the metal. You can see the sharp point just between my thumb and index finger.

Another view of the Möbius Loop Collar. I find it difficult to bend this to properly fit the glass Klein Bottle.
