Probably forever out of stock

(My supplier stopped making these and I have none. I doubt that I'll find more - sigh.)

Platonic Solids

Known since before the Internet, the five Platonic Solids are famous throughout the world. Here's your chance to own a complete set of ALL the regular polyhedra, and three additional geometric solids.

We've carefully followed Euclid's Elements, Kepler's Mysterium Cosmographicum, and Plato's Timaeus. Every one of the five Platonic Solids have congruent convex regular polygons, each face meeting another identical face at an edge. And the extra three geometric solids are all Johnson solids.

Look at everything you'll receive:

A Tetrahedron with four faces! Miniature tetrahedron
A Cube with six faces and 12 edges. Buy two sets and get a pair of unmarked dice! Cube
An Octahedron, complete with eight faces, and six assorted vertexes Octahedron
A real Dodecahedron, complete with 12 faces, 20 vertices, and lots of edges Dodecahedron
A genuine Icosahedron, replete with 20 - yes TWENTY - faces. Roll it for a fairly fair one-in-twenty die. Icosahedron

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! As an added bonus, we include:

A Cuboctahedron that has 14 faces (mostly triangles, but a few squares as well) Cuboctahedron
-The Truncated Cuboctahedron, also known as the Great Rhombicuboctahedron. It features 26 faces (some are squares, some hexagons, still others are octagons). And it includes 48 vertices and 6 dozen edges! Truncated Cuboctahedron or Great Rhombicuboctahedron
The Icosidodecahedron comes complete with 32 faces, and 30 vertices. Amongst the Hoi polloi, it's often called a pentagonal gyrobirotunda. Icosidocecahedron or pentagonal gyrobirotunda

If you've been keeping track, you know that each set contains 8 solid models, 130 faces, 140 vertices, and 246 edges. With that many faces, you can run for political office and please almost everyone.

These are real solids, designed in solidarity by advanced Canadian Geometers, and solidly die cast in solid Aluminum by stolid South Koreans. Each set of 8 geometric solids comes in a reusable clamshell case ...ideal as a mathematical gift or a classroom prize. For the USA market, we've painted them in your choice of Gold or Black colors (blue and silver are no longer available). In Canada, Britain, and other commonwealth countries, they're available in any color you want, as long as it's gold (blue, black and silver are no longer available, due to dopper shift constraints.)

Warning: Keep these away from kids under the age of 3, since they are a choking hazard. Also, the tetrahedron is pointy, so it will hurt if you step on it barefoot.

We cannot export to universes with fewer than 3 spatial dimensions. Each Platonic Solid has a diameter of 32 mm (1.26 inches). Their volumes are left as an exercise to the reader.

These aren't chintzy, hollow plastic models that'll fall apart after a few hundred years. They're made from real Aluminum, gently refined from choice quality Bauxite, are as reliable as gravity, and resist the effects of earth, air, water, and, occasionally, fire.

8 geometric solids in a hand

A complete set of 8 solids, neatly arranged in the special clamshell package, is yours for just $35. Cheaper than a cast iron anvil.
